“Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people can transform the world.”
– Howard Zinn
The history of our motherland is filled with exemplary instances of community service. From the provision made for free medicine by King Ashoka to free food served in langars to Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s struggle against societal norms, we owe what our society is today to them and many unsung heroes. Likewise, the NSS community, here, at SMVDU, has been involved in organizing an eclectic mix of activities on and around the campus since 2004. As volunteers, NSS has helped extensively in developing our personalities with a holistic approach. Poster-making contests to bring out the imagination from the palette of your mind onto the paper, literary events that give a platform to the voice for reason; it truly has something in store for everyone. Our community goes on frequent awareness programs and cleanliness drives to prepare us to become better leaders for a better tomorrow. Camps amidst the abundance of nature take place for the volunteers to develop their social skills. Time flies by in the blink of an eye, but the momentary experiences we become a part of, leave us with memories to hold onto for a lifetime. The day is not far away when our country celebrates its 100th year of Independence. The duty to transform society through the ideals of the brave men and women who fought for the country has fallen on our shoulders, and we hope to see it one day as how they envisioned it one day would be. Ending it in the words of John Keating, the Dead Poets Society – “That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?”
