NSS's history

NSS stands for National Service Scheme, a voluntary program launched in 1969 by the Indian government to foster social responsibility and community engagement among students.The NSS Unit at SMVDU was initiated soon after the establishment of the University in the early 2000s.

 

The University began community outreach, awareness programs, and social service activities through NSS from its formative years.The NSS motto, “Not Me, But You,” reflects its focus on selfless service and community development. By participating in NSS, students can develop valuable skills, make a positive impact, and contribute to nation-building.

Why NSS ?

NSS helps us understand life better and inspires us to live with purpose and compassion.

Develop Social Responsibility: NSS aims to instill a sense of social and civic responsibility among students, encouraging them to contribute to the community’s well-being.
Personality Development: Through community service, NSS helps students develop leadership skills, organizational abilities, and social skills.
Community Engagement: NSS provides a platform for students to understand the community’s needs and problems, involving them in problem-solving exercises.
National Integration: The scheme promotes national integration by encouraging students from different backgrounds to work together towards a common goal.

The NSS Logo

The Konark wheel in the NSS logo having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of a the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.Red colour in the logo signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.

The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Volunteer Leardership

NSS SMVDU nurtures confident , compassionate leaders  through hand-on responsibilties and teamwork . Volunteers  lead projects, manage events, and inspire others to create change.

Skill Development and Awareness

Through various training programs,workshops, and awareness drives, we  empower youth with practical skills, social  sensitivity and the ability to solve real-world problems.
